Our first goal is to provide students with the necessary skills and experience to obtain employment. We are willing to work on an individual basis and go the extra mile to ensure that our students are prepared to enter the work force. Small class sizes allow for individualized attention.

Prospective students can apply online or print the application from our website. The application can be mailed, faxed, or dropped off at our office.

Prospective students who have attended high school in Newfoundland and Labrador may use the FOLLOWING LINK to request an official transcript or diploma. The transcript or diploma may faxed attention to Canadian Training Institute: 1 709 786 1215.

You need to have your full Class 05 license for a least one full year in order to train on any commercial vehicle or tandem truck. This is equal to two years from the date of your class 05 road test.

Medical forms can be obtained at the school or at some Motor Registration Division locations. If you would like a copy of the medical form mailed to your address please CONTACT US.

Applicants who do not meet the educational requirements for the school may choose to apply as a mature student. Prospective students must be at least 19 years of age and out of school for at least one year. Once an application is received, the prospective student will be contacted by Canadian Training Institute to schedule an appointment for the Canadian Adult Achievement Test (CAAT). Once the CAAT test is complete the student will be considered for enrollment into Canadian Training Institute on a case-by-case basis.

If you are applying as a mature student and unable to take a CAAT test at our facility in Bay Roberts a representative from Canadian Training Institute will attempt to make arrangements for you to take the test in at a suitable location in your area.

All of the trucks at our school have standard transmissions.

Absolutely! For many of our students the first time they have ever driven a standard vehicle was on one of our commercial vehicles.

Students enrolled in our Heavy Equipment Operator program require the following materials:

– Pens and/or pencils
– Paper and/or notebook
– Eraser
– Calculator
– CSA approved steel toed boots. Steel toed boots must come above the ankle.
– CSA approved hard hat, Class 2 Level E
– Safety vest. Must be breakaway. Must at a minimum be Class 2 Level 2
– Two pair of coveralls – one insulated (recommended)
– Two pairs of gloves – insulated and non insulated (recommended)
– Safety glasses

Canadian Training Institute does not provide a cost for the above materials. The cost of these items may vary and students are recommended to search for the lowest possible cost.

A breakaway safety vest is a vest where the front and back of the vest are not permanently attached at the sides. Rather, they are joined with velcro that will breakaway when pulled with moderate force. This will allow you to get to safety if your vest gets caught in a piece of machinery.

Applicants with credentials from outside of Canada will be required to reach out to an organization which evaluates/validates foreign credentials. Once this is done, the applicant can provide the validation (in the form of a letter, email, etc.), along with the foreign transcript/diploma, to address the academic program entrance requirement.

Applicants also have the option of apply as a Mature Student in lieu of having their credentials evaluated/validated.
